"Just a smidge." ~ Newt to Porpentina, regarding his magical suitcase. Christened Newton Artemis Fido Scamander - quite simply 'Newt' for brevity's sake - Newt Scamander was, in his time, a renowned Magizoologist and the author of the Hogwarts staple, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Born in 1897, he attended Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and was sorted into Hufflepuff where he was considered, to put it mildly, a little bit odd (and perhaps a tad annoying). He did not, however, entirely complete his studies after an incident at the school led to his expulsion, though Newt does later claim in his biography that he did in fact graduate. He was a man of few words, softly spoken and kind-hearted who had an affinity for animals, especially those purported to be magical and/or dangerous. He dedicated the better part of his life to the study of these extraordinary creatures, travelling over five continents and a hundred countries in order to write his compendium. In that regard, he might be considered a little obsessive. |
